choosing the perfect trench coat like Elsa Hosk for cool weather

From early 19th century Scotland to modern fashionistas’ wardrobes: choose the perfect beige trench coat for a cool fall that will never go out of style and will easily fit into any look.

Surprisingly, the inventor of the classic trench coats, which are now in the wardrobes of Elsa Hosk, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Irina Shayk and other fashion icons of our time, was not a designer at all, but the Scottish chemist Charles McIntosh, who in the 20s of the XIX century patented a waterproof rubberized cotton fabric. At first, it was used to make clothes for men who are fond of hunting, fishing and equestrian sports, and a little later they began to produce light and practical khaki coats for the uniform of British officers.

By the beginning of the last century, trench coats had ceased to be associated exclusively with the military style and entered everyday wardrobes, largely thanks to the Burberry brand, which decided to change the paramilitary color to a more classic beige, make the silhouette fitted, add a cap on the shoulders, voluminous pockets and a belt with metal buckle. After the 1950s, this garment became so popular that almost all actresses of old Hollywood wore trench coats: Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman and other stars who inspired women around the world with their impeccable style.

Despite the fact that trends change every season, something remains eternal: beige trench coats have not gone out of fashion for several decades and are ideally combined with things in completely different styles: whether it be palazzo jeans and chunky sneakers from the 1990s or slip dresses from mother-of-pearl silk and pointed ankle boots. If the traditional colors and style seem too boring to you, this fall, pay attention to models with voluminous sleeves, wide shoulders, prints, drapery or leather inserts in a contrasting shade, although the good old classics will also be in trend. To make the look more memorable, tie a bright satin scarf around your neck, replace the belt with a wide leather belt, and fasten several large brooches on the lapel.

It’s quite easy to create a stylish look with a sand-colored trench coat that will be in fashion this fall: combine it with wide blue jeans, trouser suits, pleated skirts made of fine wool or leather dresses, depending on the weather and mood, choosing suede Cossacks with fringes, leather military-style boots, wide-toed boots or practical flat-soled Chelsea boots.

You can wear trench coats not only in early autumn: in cold weather, they will be the ideal basis for multi-layered looks with jackets, cardigans, turtlenecks and knitted vests in the preppy style, so do not rush to put them in the closet for several months.

We can safely say that now the trench coat has become as important part of the wardrobe as the little black dress once was, so buying it will not only be a way to cope with the growing autumn sadness, but also an excellent investment: in order for it to serve you as long as possible and truly protected from rain and wind, opt for thick, high-quality fabrics, midi length and straight fit, and selection for shopping inspiration.
