Cinnamon essential oil: what are its benefits and how to use it?

The cinnamon tree is a tree that grows mainly in the tropical forests of Sri Lanka. Two types of essential oils can be obtained from this plant:

  • Chinese cinnamon essential oil (Cinnamomum cassia or Cinnamomum aromaticum), which is the cheapest but contains coumarin, a substance that is harmful to the liver when consumed in large quantities, and which can also be risky in people on anticoagulant therapy. This essential oil should therefore be handled with great caution.
  • Ceylon cinnamon essential oil (Cinnamomum or Cinnamomum zeylanicum), which has anti-infectious properties.

Ceylon cinnamon essential oil: the anti-infective par excellence

The essential oil of Ceylon cinnamon is widely more widespread and its benefits are recognized. There are two types :

  • Ceylon cinnamon bark essential oil : in addition to the anti-infectious properties specific to Ceylon cinnamon EO, it acts as a general tonic and can therefore be used in the event of mental fatigue, because it has antidepressant properties, but also in the event of a decrease in libido because it stimulates sexual desire.
  • Ceylon cinnamon leaf essential oil : it also has anti-infectious properties, but less than essential oil of Ceylon cinnamon bark.

Cinnamon essential oil: the anti-infective par excellence

Do you have a tooth abscess? Bet on cinnamon essential oil! Thanks to its analgesic properties, it relieves the pain associated with this dental problem. Its anti-infectious properties help fight infection more generally.

Cinnamon essential oil is also indicated in cases of gynecological infection. It thus helps to fight vaginitis or cystitis.

But that’s not all: this ET is also an ally against digestive problems. It can therefore be useful in cases of intestinal infection, such as diarrhea or gastroenteritis, because it helps to clean the digestive system.

How to use cinnamon essential oil?

It is possible to enjoy the benefits of cinnamon essential oil internally or externally. But when used externally, this essential oil must always be diluted to a maximum of 5 or 10% in a vegetable oil of jojoba, macadamia or sesame. And for good reason: it is dermocaustic and can therefore burn the skin if it is used pure.

When taken internally, this essential oil can have harmful effects on the liver. It is therefore essential to combine the essential oil of cinnamon with an essential hepato-protective oil such as thyme thujanol, carrot or lemon EO, or with a herbal tea made from hepato-protective plants such as desmodium or milk thistle during the cure.

Cinnamon essential oil: an ally of the digestive system

In case of gastrointestinal pain, you can put two drops of cinnamon essential oil in 10 drops of neutral vegetable oil. Then massage your abdomen and stomach with this mixture after meals. You can also drop two drops of cinnamon essential oil on a neutral tablet or in a spoon of olive oil.

Also internally, the essential oil of cinnamon must be diluted in a vegetable oil. In the event of infectious diarrhea of ​​the tourist type, you can thus place a drop of EO of cinnamon in a teaspoon of olive oil, and take this mixture three times a day for seven days. Combine this cure with an essential oil or a hepato-protective plant.

Are you about to go on a trip and are you worried about intestinal infections? You can take the EO of cinnamon as a preventive measure. For this, put a drop of essential oil of Ceylon cinnamon bark and a drop of essential oil of niaouli on a neutral tablet and take it 24 hours before departure, but also during the stay if it does not last more than seven days. and 48 hours after your return. Do not forget to take an essential oil or a hepato-protective plant in parallel.

Cinnamon essential oil against urinary tract infections

In case of urinary tract infection, you can place a drop of EO of Ceylon cinnamon bark and a drop of EO of lemon on a neutral tablet in a teaspoon of olive oil. Take this mixture three times a day for seven days, to prevent the pain associated with the infection, but also to prevent the infection from gaining ground. Combine this cure with an essential oil or a hepato-protective plant.

Cinnamon essential oil: it helps fight against fatigue

Do you suffer from physical or mental fatigue? Put three drops of EO of Ceylon cinnamon bark on a neutral tablet or in a teaspoon of olive oil. Take this mixture without ever exceeding 15 days and always associated with an essential oil or a hepato-protective plant.

What are the contraindications for cinnamon essential oil?

Cinnamon essential oil is contraindicated in pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under the age of seven. It is also not recommended for people on anticoagulant treatment, in the event of bleeding periods, a history of gastroesophageal reflux, gastritis, peptic ulcer and hepatitis B or C, because it inflames the digestive system. People with asthma should also use this EO with caution, as should people allergic to benzyl benzoate, because it contains it.
