Today I’m going to talk to you about diamonds, and more exactly about synthetic diamond.
But what is a synthetic diamond?
First of all, this diamond is made in a laboratory where we recreate the same conditions as in nature, which allows carbon to crystallize. This gem is therefore identical in every way with the one extracted from mines; the only differences between these two diamonds are the impacts on our planet and these origins.
Know that this precious stone, obtained from the laboratory, can have several names such as: cultured diamond, synthetic diamond or lab diamond ; but in all cases it is the same gem.
WHY PREFER A SYNTHETIC DIAMOND?
In the great majority of mines, working conditions are totally scandalous (child labor, violation of human rights, serious accidents, etc.) and the repercussions on the environment are not without consequences.
This lab-grown diamond is not only aesthetically identical to mining diamond, but it has the same characteristics. same properties physical, chemical and optical.
If you had the chance to examine 2 diamonds with a magnifying glass, one from mining and the other made in the laboratory, you would notice no difference.
The synthetic diamond is therefore a real alternative and response to environmental issues and impacts, but also to the expectations of new generations!
So is it finally the end of mining?
For the moment not (unfortunately), but at our level, we consumers have the power to change things.
So, why not buy your wedding band set with diamonds or engagement rings, at a ethical jeweler ?
ETHICAL JEWELERY / CULTURED DIAMONDS
In France, the beautiful jewelry house JEM (JEWELERY ETHICALLY MINDED) was among the first to have made the innovative choice of cultured diamond.
Their creations are original, very elegant but above all ethical and in my eyes that makes all the difference.
The jewelery gets its supplies from partner laboratories, in order to offer you a diamond full of sparkle totally ethics and environmentally friendly ; offering only the beauty of stone (without the damage of traditional mining). A today’s diamond and definitely looking to the future!
Good to know, a lab diamond will cost you overall 30% cheaper (another important point: there are no intermediaries between the laboratories and the ethical jewelry house), unlike the diamond mining industry.
LITTLE REMINDER : I had already had the opportunity to present to you JEM, telling you about ethical gold, then don’t hesitate to take a look.
MY SELECTION OF RINGS / WEDDING ALLIANCES
Here is a small selection of engagement rings and wedding rings that you will find on their website.
I love their collections of engagement rings and alliances : Octagon, Embraces (in paving diamonds). They are wonders for the eyes!
Moreover, I spotted this sublime Solitaire octagon which left me speechless.
And you, what will be your favorite? Do not hesitate to tell me about it, by leaving me a comment at the bottom of the article!
