Ginkgo biloba, a natural tonic

Where is he from ?

Gingko biloba is mainly cultivated in China, Korea and Japan. It is also nicknamed “the tree with 40 crowns” because of the golden color of its fan-shaped leaves in autumn. Measuring between 25 and 30 meters, it is a tree very resistant to pollution, pests and extreme climatic conditions. It is said that a gingko biloba would have survived after the explosion of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima even though everything was burnt around him.

What are its virtues?

Gingko biloba is primarily used for its venous tonic properties, in particular to fight against feelings of heavy legs or hemorrhoid attacks. The flavonoids it contains help thin the blood and improve circulation.

In addition, by increasing the circulation to the cerebral level and, consequently, the supply of oxygen and essential nutrients, it is a neuroprotector recommended for treating cognitive disorders linked to aging.

In what forms can we use it?

Whole gingko biloba leaves can be found in pharmacies and specialty stores to use as an infusion. It also exists in the form of powder sold in particular in capsules. Better to favor organic labels because gingko biloba absorbs heavy metals and pesticides present in the soil.

What are the contraindications?

People with hemophilia and those on anti-coagulant treatment should not consume ginkgo biloba since it affects the fluidity of the blood. Similarly, it should be avoided to take it before an operation, in anticipation of a possible hemorrhage. And, as with all plants, it is not recommended for pregnant women and children to consume them without medical advice.
