Winter has just come into its own, and your favorite down jacket has already lost its “marketable” appearance: there are scuffs on the pocket, here and there small spots are found, and the hood is dirty? To erase a thing or not – that is the question. It is better to expose the down jacket to “bath procedures” at the beginning of winter or at the end of the cold season, so that feathers or other filler can dry out. And one day is not enough for this. Therefore, by deciding to start washing a down jacket, you will have to walk in other outerwear for several days.
Use of napkins
In winter, owners of small breed dogs have to pick up the pet in their arms during a street walk. After all, animals are freezing, their paws are cramping. Most yards are sprinkled with salt at this time. It sticks to the paws of dogs. As a result, the down jacket becomes covered with whitish stains. You don’t have to start a wash to clean it. You should not wipe off the stains with a sponge and soap, this will only worsen the situation. The best option is wet wipes. It is necessary to wipe off the dirt and allow it to dry. No greasy stains or traces of dirt will remain. Also, thanks to the fragrances of wet wipes, the puffs will smell nice.
Removing stains with salt
Is there a greasy stain on your down jacket? Don’t be upset. You can clean your favorite jacket using proven methods:
- The affected area must be covered with finely ground salt. It will quickly absorb fat. Then the stain is easily removed.
- A mixture of vinegar and salt (they should be taken in equal parts) will help to cope with fresh pollution. The resulting gruel must be applied to the stain, held for several minutes, then removed with a damp cloth or a sponge soaked in water.
- Another fat remover is starch. But to get a visible result, you should apply it several times in a row. And then vacuum the material or treat it with a clean, stiff brush.
- If there are traces of cosmetics on the collar (for example, powder or foundation), then it is worth using micellar water. It is necessary to moisten a cotton pad in it and wipe the affected area of the jacket.
First you need to familiarize yourself with the label. It indicates how to care for the down jacket: at what temperature to wash, whether it can be ironed, whether dry cleaning is acceptable. Typically, manufacturers sew the tag to the inside seam.
It is not recommended to wash the item with added powder. Indeed, in this case, traces will remain on the down jacket. It is better to give preference to a liquid product that does not foam much and is intended for delicate fabrics. For example, you can purchase capsules or laundry shampoo. The main thing is that they operate at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees.
Before you start washing, you need to fasten all the buttons and zippers on the clothes, and turn the jacket inside out. If it turns out that filling comes out of the seams, then it is worth taking the down jacket to a dry cleaner.
There should be only one jacket in the drum during washing. There is no need to throw any other things there. A down jacket needs space. The water temperature is also important – no more than 30 degrees. Suitable modes are: “duvet”, delicate or hand wash. The spin should be between 400 and 600 revolutions.
In addition to the main wash and rinse, add 2-3 more rinses. This will remove any detergent residue from the fluff. The next step is drying. The down jacket should be hung up. When it dries, you need to walk over it with a vacuum cleaner with a narrow nozzle.
