But that’s not all the trouble. Recently, scientists have come to the shocking conclusion that a person’s weight directly depends on the duration of sleep. And it is in the lack of sleep that the root of the problem of obesity in many people.

Scientists from different countries have carried out long-term experiments in this area. And their findings are absolutely identical: lack of sleep increases the risk of obesity.

The experiments involved two groups of volunteers. Some slept as expected – 8 hours a day, while others did not get enough sleep this norm. At the same time, the physical activity in the two groups was the same, and they consumed the same amount of calories. However, in those people who slept less, these calories were not completely burned and stored in fat. During the experiment, people who slept less became noticeably fat. But those who fulfilled the daily sleep rate remained at their weight, some even lost weight.

Also, the link between lack of sleep and obesity has been proven by other studies. And the reason here is in the hormones that are produced during sleep:

  • Leptin – designed to reduce appetite and suppress hunger;
  • Ghrelin – this hormone, on the contrary, is designed to whet the appetite.

With insufficient sleep, leptin in the body does not have time to be produced in the required quantities. Which contributes to overeating. While eating, a person cannot stop and does not feel full. Since the signal for saturation must be sent to the brain through the hormone leptin. As a result, metabolic disorders and obesity.

Other experiments are being carried out in this area. With the participation of obese volunteers. They are prescribed to sleep at least 8 hours a day, while the rest of their habits do not change. And already there is a positive trend. People are really starting to lose weight.

Many are very eager to lose weight. They follow various exhausting diets and go in for sports to the point of exhaustion, and the extra pounds do not want to leave. Maybe it’s all about the lack of a couple of hours of rest?

The body needs sleep like air, water and food. And even, probably, a little more. A person can live without food and water for some time. But no one can stand it for a long time without sleep. Lack of sleep affects both physical and mental health.
