The fashion house Saint Laurent has presented a capsule collection, created in cooperation with the Jean-Michel Basquiat Foundation. Drawings of the American artist appear on T-shirts, bags and accessories. The collection also includes printed surfboards inspired by Basquiat’s work.
The collection became part of the collaboration of the fashion house with the artist’s foundation and the Enrico Navarra gallery. Anthony Vaccarello, creative director of Saint Laurent, will curate the exhibition of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s works in the boutiques of the fashion house. Until September, paintings by one of the leading contemporary artists can be viewed in the flagship Rive Droite stores in Paris and Los Angeles.
The exposition will include silk-screen printing, 18 original lithographs and drawings. You can also see ceramic plates and a spoon that belonged to Andy Warhol, as well as a denim jacket purchased at one of the first charity auctions in support of the fight against AIDS.
Jean-Michel Basquiat was one of the main artists in New York in the 1980s. He was friends with Andy Warhol, dated Madonna and participated in Comme des Garçons shows.
