Shortened Schedule and Line-Up: What to Expect from New York Fashion Week

This weekend the opening of New York Fashion Week will take place, during which famous designers will present collections of men and women clothing for the spring-summer 2021 season. In what format will one of the main fashion events of the year take place and what can we expect from it?

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Fashion Week will be held in an abbreviated format: instead of the usual six days, the organizers decided to keep within just four days. This time the NFW will run from September 13-16.

The number of participants has also decreased. So, this year Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Gabriela Hearst, Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler, Tory Burch and Prabal Gurung will not take part in Fashion Week. Most of the fashion houses are planning to hold their own shows online and present their collections at a convenient time for them.

But we are waiting for shows from Adeam, Alice + Olivia, Anna Sui, Badgley Mischka, Carolina Herrera, Chromat, Christian Cowan, Christian Siriano, Jason Wu, Marchesa, Tom Ford and many other brands. Also, everyone is waiting for the emergence of newcomers, including brands such as Anne Klein, Colleen Allen, Duncan, Frère and Oak & Acorn.

However, not all designers plan to host shows in offline format. So far we know that we will have five shows, which will be held outdoors and with a limited number of participants. Brands that have prepared offline events include Rebecca Minkoff and Jason Wu. By the way, it is Jason Wu who will officially kick off the Fashion Week with his show.

Most of the designers will showcase the new collections in hybrid formats that include live streaming and digital lookbooks, and will broadcast their shows on the Runway360 platform. The platform is supported by CFDA and will allow designers to showcase collections in a variety of formats, including live streams, lookbooks, videos and films. Runway360 supports AR and VR technologies, 360-degree viewing capabilities, live streaming and social media integration.

The 13th annual Style Awards will also take place on September 13, during which awards will be presented in the categories Editor of the Year, Designer of the Year and other awards for contributions to the development of the fashion industry. And on September 14, the traditional CFDA Fashion Awards Ceremony – “Oscar” from the world of fashion, will take place.
