Smart tips to cleanse your liver naturally

The liver is the most important organ in our body. When it secretes bile, the gallbladder becomes the reserve. Receptacle of the liver, these two organs are linked and together make it possible to emulsify fats, lubricate the fecal bowl and channel food in order to produce vitamin K which is involved in coagulation, bone mineralization and cell growth. To optimize the proper functioning of the liver and gallbladder, they need to be cleaned from time to time. We are not talking here about doing the big cleaning at each change of season, but about doing small detoxes in order to stimulate them, eliminate the toxins and the waste which are present there. “The interest is to clean them up to make them more efficient, to relieve them in order to support their functions,” explains Anne-Sandrine Arensberg. It should also be borne in mind that the liver filters the blood and allows red blood cells to regenerate. If the liver is malfunctioning, the lungs take over. ”

When to do the detox?
People who have a healthy lifestyle will not necessarily need to have a fat detox. We can be content to do small cleanings by removing for example red meats, coffee and by draining and regenerating the liver with herbal teas. The big detox is generally done in the spring to maintain the immune system in winter. “After the holidays, resuming a balanced diet and regular sports practice can be enough to cleanse the body,” says the naturopath. The advantage of a detox at this time would be in a short time to drain and support the liver and the gallbladder, and not to clean them in depth.

The two actions: drain and support
A small detox will be done from a week to ten days maximum, while a longer one can be done over ten or even three weeks with fasting and monodiet. But a liver cleanse cannot be done beyond three weeks. However, fasting should be avoided in the middle of winter and monodieties are preferred, for example with rice accompanied by aromatics. Over the days, food is gradually reintroduced to progress towards a complete and balanced diet.

In both cases, namely the big detox and the little cleansing, you can start your day with a half citron hot to wake up and alkalize the body. Then we eliminate saturated fats, cold meats, red meat from our diet and we favor raw vegetables and crucifers (cabbage, broccoli, asparagus, turnips, artichokes, etc.). “To consume rather raw to preserve fibers and vitamins, we can add spices such as turmeric which is good for the liver and digestion”, advises Anne-Sophie Arensberg.

Plants as a complement
These meals are of course accompanied with plants that will facilitate digestion, in the form of herbal teas for example, such as rosemary, dandelion, milk thistle or black radish. To regenerate the liver, we can combine several plants in capsules or infusions, such as desmodium, chrysanthellum americanum. Drainage is done with infusions of celandine, fumeterre or artichoke or a spoon of olive oil on an empty stomach. The liver is an organ that needs heat. If you feel bloated after a large meal, place a hot water bottle on your lower abdomen. “You can also massage your stomach and liver with essential oils of mint, rosemary and lemon”, advises Anne-Sandrine Arensberg. Self-massage by making clockwise circles on your stomach while paying attention to your breathing.

An example of a program to follow over 10 days
– 1st day: we remove the bread and proteins from the diet to compose its meals only of fruits and vegetables.
– 2nd day: we make a monodiet of vegetable juice for 2-3 days.
– 6th day: we gradually resume a complete diet with fruit-based breakfasts, raw salads with a few seeds for 3-4 days.

A small mixture of essential oils in addition*
– 3 drops of essential oil of thyme thujalol
– 2 drops of Greenland Ledon essential oil
– 1 drop of lying Gaulthérie essential oil
It is mixed on a piece of bread or a piece of sugar twice a day for a few weeks.
