Benefit
The product is based on kefir fungi – a symbiosis of various beneficial bacteria, which include sour milk sticks and streptococci. Also, the drink contains various vitamins and chemical elements, each of which is useful in its own way:
- iodine: prevents hair loss, making them stronger;
- choline: provokes blood flow to the follicles, accelerating the growth process;
- calcium: increases the strength and density of hair, restores volume to the hairstyle;
- vitamin B12: improves the condition of the split ends;
- a nicotinic acid: prevents premature cell death;
- riboflavin: fights gray hair, protects weak follicles;
- potassium: normalizes water balance;
- phosphorus: gives hair shine and elasticity.
Regular use of a kefir hair mask helps control the work of the sebaceous glands, thereby eliminating oily shine and keeping the hair fresh for longer. The fatter the product, the stronger this effect is.
Contraindications
The main contraindication to the use of the product is individual intolerance. Adults may be allergic to kefir yeast or milk protein. It usually manifests itself when ingested, but skin reactions cannot be ruled out. If discomfort appears after the mask or wash, further experiments will have to be abandoned.
Girls who dyed their hair a dark color should be approached with caution in home cosmetic procedures. Kefir is an effective oxidizing agent, it can spoil the coloring, restoring the natural hair color. Even masks can lighten the natural shades of brown-haired women or brunettes.
Application
You can use kefir both in pure form and by mixing it with additional components. The final composition of a home cosmetic product depends on the purpose of use: each has its own characteristics and recipes.
Kefir for washing hair
High-quality kefir can replace shampoo. It will not only cleanse the hair from pollution, but will also have a beneficial effect on the follicles and curls – it will strengthen them, normalize the water balance, and help to cope with oily or dry scalp. Enough 1-2 treatments per week to strengthen the hair.
Heat kefir to a comfortable temperature; it is strictly forbidden to bring to a boil. The amount of product required depends on the length of the hair. Rinse your hair with the resulting warm composition according to the shampoo scheme. The sour milk is washed off with warm water, the use of a conditioner balm is allowed.
Kefir for lightening hair
Acids have a brightening effect, but you should not expect a quick and noticeable result. Regular use of kefir will help to change the shade by 5-6 tones, but it will be best of all noticeable on light blond hair. Use natural homemade kefir whenever possible.
To lighten hair with kefir, apply 100-200 ml of warm product over the entire length and put on a polyethylene shower cap. On top, everything must be insulated with a scarf or scarf. After 1.5-2 hours, rinse your hair with shampoo. To enhance the effect, after the kefir mask for lightening hair, rinse the curls with cool water with vinegar or lemon juice.
Kefir for paint remover
When applied to hair, kefiric acids make the surface of the hair softer, weakening the bond between the dye pigments inside. Chemical washes act faster, but negatively affect the condition of the curls. You will have to use a kefir mask to remove hair dye several times.
Fresh kefir is suitable for gentle washing, the best option is homemade, high-fat. Before use, it is warmed up in a water bath to 40 ° C. Spread the warm mass over the entire length of the hair, gently rubbing the product into the areas clogged as much as possible with dye. Keep for 1-2 hours, then rinse with cool water.
Kefir for lamination
Hair lamination restores strength and shine to lifeless and dull curls, eliminates split ends and “heals” damage. For home composition you will need:
- 4 tbsp. l. kefir;
- 1 tbsp. l. castor oil;
- 2 tbsp. l. mayonnaise;
- egg.
Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Apply to clean, dry hair, bypassing the root area. After 30-40 minutes, wash off with cool water. You can repeat the procedure once a week until you achieve the desired result.
Mask recipes
Additional components improve the work of the active substances contained in kefir. The right ingredients will benefit your hair. All formulations need a rinse, a hair mask at night is a risky idea.
Kefir mask for hair growth
Increased blood circulation in the scalp helps to accelerate hair growth. The following recipe will help “wake up” the cells, which will require:
- 150 ml of kefir;
- 1 tbsp. l. dry mustard;
- 1 tsp honey;
- 1 chicken yolk.
Mix everything and apply to scalp with gentle massage movements, rinse off after half an hour. This hair growth mask dries the hair a little, so you can repeat it no more than once a week.
Also, a fermented milk drink can be mixed with decoctions of herbs in 1: 1 proportions (chamomile, sage, burdock root, hops or nettle are suitable) or add natural oils. Apply the main composition closer to the roots.
Kefir mask for thick hair

Burdock oil helps to restore density to weakened curls. To make a kefir hair mask at home, take:
- 80 ml of kefir;
- 10 ml of burdock oil;
- 1 chicken egg yolk.
The whipped components are applied closer to the roots after a standard shampoo wash, rinse off the mask after 15-20 minutes.
For density and growth, you can make a kefir mask with onion juice (proportions – 4: 1). The mixture is gently rubbed into the roots, after half an hour it is removed with warm water without additional cosmetic products.
Kefir mask to strengthen hair
A mask with natural bee honey helps to strengthen weak and lifeless hair. Prepare:
- 200 ml of kefir;
- 1 tbsp. l. honey;
- 50 ml of chamomile infusion;
- 1 yolk.
Melt honey in a water bath, add the rest of the ingredients. Stir until smooth, then distribute over the entire length of the strands. Warm your head with a film and a scarf, rinse with warm water after 60 minutes.
Kefir mask for hair nourishment
Liquid vitamins, which can be purchased at the pharmacy, help to provide quality nutrition. For the mask you need:
- 100 ml of kefir;
- 10 drops of vitamins A and E;
- 2 tbsp. l. bran;
- 1 tbsp. l. colorless henna.
Stir everything so that you get a thick mass. Apply the main amount to the scalp. You need to keep it for 30-40 minutes. If desired, you can use henna with a red tint.
Mask with kefir against hair loss
It is recommended to supplement the kefir hair mask against hair loss with fresh yeast. Maintain optimal proportions of components:
- 250 ml of kefir;
- 50 ml of water;
- 15 g yeast.
Dissolve yeast in water and after 15-20 minutes add room temperature kefir to it. Apply to head with gentle massage movements, rinse off after 15-20 minutes with warm water.
Rye bread can be used instead of yeast. The pulp is poured with kefir and kneaded until a homogeneous mass is obtained, which is convenient to apply to the hair roots.
Kefir mask for dry hair
Kefir mask for dry hair will help bring dull curls back to life. The composition includes:
- 150 ml of kefir;
- 1 tbsp. l. almond oil;
- 1 yolk.
Whisk kefir and yolk until smooth, add almond oil. The mixture stays on the hair for one hour, is washed off with warm water without using shampoo. To restore hair, repeat the procedure once a week for a couple of months.
Kefir mask for oily hair
To get rid of the greasy shine, use a kefir mask for oily hair. For her you need:
- 250 ml of kefir;
- 1 tbsp. l. blue clay;
- rosemary essential oil.
Mix the ingredients thoroughly to form a thick paste. Massage it slowly and gently into the scalp. Wash off after half an hour using your usual shampoo.
Kefir mask for hair ends
A simple mixture of kefir (100 ml) and vegetable oil (1 tablespoon) helps to get rid of dry ends. The resulting mixture is applied directly to problem areas of the hairstyle, lasts about half an hour. It is recommended to wash off with cold water.
Kefir mask for volume
Use a cocoa mask to add volume. It includes:
- 50 ml of kefir;
- 20 ml of burdock oil;
- 2 tbsp. l. cocoa;
- 1 chicken egg.
Beat cocoa and egg with a blender, add butter and kefir. Apply to hair roots, leave for 30 minutes to an hour. Blondes need to be careful: there is a risk that the hair will darken due to cocoa.
Application Tips
For masks, natural kefir is best suited, the shelf life of which is no more than a week. It is not recommended to use an expired product. “Old” drinks have a higher acidity level, which can affect the final result.
Some recipes provide for the use of only a heated drink, for others, kefir at room temperature will do. Simply take it out of the refrigerator a few hours before applying it to your hair and scalp. There should be no discomfort during the mask.
Kefir contains many useful substances that nourish the scalp and hair follicles, normalize metabolic processes and can improve the appearance of curls in several applications. It is simple to use the product, and it has practically no contraindications.
