POLICE – Left and environmentalists unanimously condemned this Thursday, November 26 the beating by police officers of a music producer, which occurred last Saturday in Paris and whose video was broadcast on social networks. All see this as the justification for their request to withdraw the controversial article 24 of the “Global Security” law.

In the wake of the dissemination of the images to the general public, the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin asked this Thursday the “suspension” of several police officers who are the subject of an investigation by the Paris prosecutor’s office for “violence” and “ false in public writing ”. She was entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) after this beating.

“As long as there are images, we will see” police violence

In these images unveiled by Loopsider, a man called “Michel” suffers many blows from the police, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, while he is at the entrance of a music studio.

“It is time to agree to deal with the subject of racism in the police, to withdraw article 24 of the Comprehensive Security Act, to make the IGPN absolutely independent in order to give its decisions the impartial character that it does not. ‘not today ”, asked the first secretary of the PS Olivier Faure on Twitter.

“IGPN, this comedy where police officers decide among themselves the fate of police officers? It must be dissolved and replaced by a democratic body. You refuse to talk about police violence but as long as there are images, we will see them! Withdraw the global security law! ”, Replied LFI number two Adrien Quatennens to Gérald Darmanin.

Calls to demonstrate Saturday against article 24

Ditto for EELV boss Julien Bayou: “Without the videos nothing would have come out. Videos you want to ban. To protect the police officers who carry out their mission with rectitude? Or to ensure the impunity of these behaviors which dishonor the uniform? ”

Weighted down by controversies, hated by its opponents, the “Global Security” bill which plans to penalize the malicious dissemination of the image of police officers received a green light from the National Assembly on Tuesday, before its consideration in the Senate.

Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Tuesday that he would himself seize the Constitutional Council about the controversial article 24.

The national secretary of the PCF Fabien Roussel called to join the demonstrations of Saturday for the withdrawal of this article, and to “reform the republican police force”, because “the racist police violence is realities”.

“No image on the networks, no public agitation, no embarrassment of power, no reaction from the minister, no sanction from violent and racist police officers. No justice. No democracy ”, enumerated the MEP from Place Publique Raphaël Glucksmann. EELV MEP David Cormand saw these police as “racist delinquents” and accused the government of “encouraging” them by covering them up ”.
