After heavy months of uncertainty and anxiety during a pandemic, designers are avoiding the color black. Brown brings a little more optimism (and a little less mourning). The color of hazelnut, Swiss chocolate and other “edible” shades is intended to restore the desire to live in the world.
Not only the global health crisis is involved in this, but also the Kardashian-Jenner family. In January 2021, Kim posted a photo in a total brown look. Down jacket, leather trousers, headband – all in a shade of chocolate. He replaced the run and khaki, from which Instagram is pretty tired.
Soon, shades of brown – from light caramel to strong coffee – appeared in the collections of Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent and Fendi. Total black gave way to chocolate in the collections of the British Nancy Dojaki and the Ottolinger brand from Berlin. New York, represented by Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs, supported this decision.
In the Dior men’s collection, brown was set off by drawings by artist George Kondo, who worked with designer Kim Jones and rapper Travis Scott.
Jil Sander and Jacquemus in their Fall / Winter 2021 collections answered the age-old question: “Can brown and black be paired?” For many years this color combination was considered faux pas, and the look of brown bags paired with black belts was not admirable. Now the forbidden combination is becoming the trend of the season.
There are no more restrictions on the color palette: brown can be safely combined with a complementary sky blue, and with beige, which is probably in your wardrobe. Yellow – the shade of 2021 according to Pantone – will make the image extremely optimistic.
It’s hard to imagine a more autumnal shade than brown. Getting ready for the onset of cold weather and adding color to your wardrobe:
